Dynamics and Biodiversity of Lepidoptera in The Netherlands from 1850 - now Dr Willem N. Ellis*, Dr Sandrine A. Ulenberg, & Rob de Vos
This research concerns the dynamics of diversity of moth species at various temporal and spatial scales. It aims to identify past and present patterns in biodiversity, to understand what key processes and factors control the origin, maintenance and disappearance of moth biodiversity. Through databasing, mapping and statistical analyses estimation have been made of changes in species biodiversity in The Netherlands in correlation with the observed changes in the flora and the climate from 1850 till present. Information on changes in the flora was provided by Dr R. van der Meijden and W. Tamis (Nationaal Herbarium Nederland, Leiden). Information on climate change was obtained through Dr ir H. van Oene (Natuurbeheer en Plantenecologie, Wageningen University). The project was part of the Dutch National Research Programme on Global Air Pollution and Climate Change, registered under nr. 952275 supervised by Prof. Dr F. Berendse and Dr ir H. van Oene (Natuurbeheer en Plantenecologie, Wageningen University).
