Amsterdam, the capital of The Netherlands, possesses one of the largest historical inner cities in Europe, which is easily explored on foot, with museums, theatres, monuments, and most other features of interest generally being within walking distance of one another. Amsterdam is also one of the leading cultural centres of Europe. Among its famous museums are the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, the Amsterdam Historical Museum and the Van Gogh Museum. Notable are also the Anne Frank House, where Anne Frank wrote her well-known diary during the early years of German occupation of The Netherlands, the Jewish Historical Museum, which is situated in the beautifully restored High German Synagogue. The Universiteit van Amsterdam was founded in 1632 and today occupies a number of historical and modern buildings in the city centre. It is the biggest university in The Netherlands; it offers more than 50 full degree programmes, has a staff of 5000 and a student population of more than 25.000. It is also one of the few universities with its own archaeological museum, the Allard Pierson Museum.
The aula of the University of Amsterdam is the ancient conference centre in the historical Amsterdam and is situated in the central part of Amsterdam.

Please register by returning the following registration form. Registration takes place on Tuesday from 14.00 until 17.00 hours in the Aula of the Universiteit van Amsterdam. Those who have subscribed for the tutorials on Tuesday can register for the conference on Wednesday from 8.30 until 9.00 hours. Upon registration, you will receive all conference materials including a name tag. You are kindly requested to wear your name tag du ring all sessions and social events. Since coffee and tea are only free on presentation of this name tag and since it will also be your entrance ticket to the lecture rooms, it is very important that you do not loose your name tag or forget to bring it to the conference.

For calls from Amsterdam, dial the last 7 numbers only. Messages will be given to the organi sation on-site and will be posted on the message board. If you wish to make a phone call during the conference, you can use a public phone located opposite the registration desk. Phone cards can also be bought at this desk. Post offices are generally open on working days from 9.00 - 17.00 hours. Letters can be mailed here, as well as in the big red boxes in the streets. Postage for a letter to foreign countries is approximately DFL 1,-. Stamps can be purchased at post offices and in some tobacco shops. The nearest post office is located at Singel 250. If you want to send or read your emails you can use one of the computers in the Professorenkamer which are located in the Aula complex.
Upon registration you'll receive a Courtesy Passport. It contains information about Amsterdam and a Green Taxi Ticket.

Amsterdam has very good public transport facilities. Schiphol airport is very close to Amsterdam centre. There are trains day and night, leaving every 15 minutes through the day, hourly in the dead of night, and which take about 15 minutes. A single journey costs Dfl 5.50. Or you can pay approx. Dfl. 45 - Dfl. 55 for a taxi, and be there in 10 minutes.
The official language of The Netherlands is Dutch. Many people speak fairly good English too. The congress language will be English.
Poster and oral contributions are both included in the conference proceedings. Posters should be prepared limited to 100 x 100 cm in size. Oral presentations are limited to 20 minutes with 5 minutes discussion (20 + 5 = 25 minutes). For camera-ready manuscript submission, please refer to the author guidelines for proceedings manuscripts. On Thursday morning and Friday morning, poster presentations will be held at the Tetterodebibliotheek and the Senaatskamer in the Aula complex. Those presenting a poster are kindly requested to post their material on Thursday or Friday from 8.15 hours until 10.00 hours. Fastening materials are available at the registration desk.
The weather in Amsterdam in June is usually sunny and warm (20 to 25 degrees Celsius). Rain is possible.
The Dutch currency is the guilder, expressed variously as fl (for florin), dfl, hfl, G, NLG, or just f or f. The current exchange rates are online available in Dutch but you should be able to decipher it. "Verkoopt" = Sell, "Koopt" = Buy. Prices given are the guilder price for 100 of the quoted currency. Currency can be exchanged at most banks, post offices, railway stations and at Schiphol Airport. Banks are generally open on weekdays from 9.00 - 16.00 hours. The Grenswisselkantoor; (GWK) at Central Station and Leidse Plein; are open every day till midnight. We warn you for the smaller exchange bureau's, which are generally located in the main shopping streets and which charge high commission rates. The conference registration and information desk will accept payment only in Dutch guilders; by credit card (Euro/Mastercard, VISA and American Express), by Eurocheques. Cash cheques must be cashed at a bank first. (1$ 2 DFL). Credit cards are not nearly as widely accepted here as in many other lands. Always enquire first if you intend to pay by credit card.
People in The Netherlands are generally friendly. However, we cannot warn you enough to be aware of pickpockets, especially in the railway stations and at the airport. Please take care of your personal belongings. The conference organisation cannot be held responsible for any losses or damages.
Delegates can leave messages for each other on a (the) message board near the registration desk. Since last-minute changes in the programme will also be posted on this board, we kindly ask you to read the messages carefully.
Near the Aulacomplex is the university restaurant Atrium which is recommended for delegates to have lunch. Coffee and tea are free of charge for all delegates (upon presentation of your name tag) and will be available in the Tetterodebibliotheek during the breaks.
