Courses in History of Computing

Bachelor

History and social aspects of computing.

A crash course in the history of computing is part of the portfolio for students of Informatica. The course offers a birds eye view of computing in the pioneering age and a first historical characterization of software and styles of software engineering.

Master

History of Computing. The master's course offers histories of computing. A introductory survey of traditions in data processing, control, computing, and communication is followed by in depth treatments of 1. computing facilities from ENIAC to internet and grid; 2. history of software and software engineering; and 3. histories of the information society.

Summer school

In relation to the project Software for Europe (cf Research) a summer school 'Oral history and technological memory' was held in Turku, Finland, August 2009.
