Projects of CGE

FlySafe2

Reduces the risk of bird-aircraft collisions, but also provides the data and models to study fundamental questions about bird behavior along entire migratory flyways. CGE develops data collection and storage protocols for operational weather radars throughout Europe as well as bird migration models. Project partners include the Royal Nethelrands Institute for Meteorology (KNMI). FlySafe2 is a follow-up of the successful Flysafe1 and Bambas projects, and is financed by the Royal Netherlands Airforce.

UvA-BiTS

Provides the research community with a flexible bird tracking system and an eScience research infrastructure that can be used to investigate bird movement at multiple scales. The project started in 2008 and currently (2011) we collaborate with 13 partners to investigate a large number of questions on bird movement and behaviour. Together we tagged more than 160 birds, and stored over 2.5 million fixes in total in the UvA-BiTS database.

Wader distribution

Enhances our understanding of the spatio-temporal wader distribution in the Wadden sea. This project is a collaboration between the CGE-group, the IMARES institute and the Dutch Centre for Field Ornithology (SOVON). This project is financed by the Netherlands Science Foundation (NWO).
