'Biofuels for Road Transport - A Seed to Wheel Perspective'

As Chair of the Environmental Sciences Research Group of the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED), Prof. Reijnders is a leading international expert in the field of biofuel production in the context of sustainability. As he explained in a recent interview on the subject together with UvA University Professor Louise Fresco, truly sustainable biofuel production is much more complicated than one might initially think.

In his latest book ‘Biofuels for Road Transport - A Seed to Wheel Perspective', together with Dr. Mark Huijbregts of Radboud University Nijmegen, Prof. Reijnders provides a review of the history, the current status and the impact of biofuels used in road transport. For this he considers all aspects of the biofuel's life cycle from the planting of the crops from which it is produced to its eventual combustion in the engine of a motor vehicle. Special attention is given to topical issues in the current discussion about biofuels, such as cost, competition with food production, contribution to energy security, use of natural resources, and environmental impact.
