Printers
The network printers listed on this page are accessible from anywhere within
the faculty networks.
Unix users may influence specific printer properties using the options command
line switch to the print command "lp". E.g., to print on A3 paper on a printer
that prints on A4 per default you may use:
lp -d printername -o "papersize=a3" filename ...
Windows users may enable specific options through the properties button in the
print dialog.
All printers can only be accessed using printer spoolers. These
spoolers run on the core fileservers wtcw-server and rec-server.
Since all printers can be accessed across the network, sending print
jobs can in some cases be a convenient alternative for faxing
documents.
For all printers accounting files are maintained. For the student
laserprinter (sl1) the accounting file is used to enforce print quota.
All students can print up to 200 double sided pages each month. If your
quota is reached you cannot print for the remainder of that month.
Check your printerquota on printer sl1
Quota are refreshed each month. Quota not used the previous month are
lost (you cannot save on printing for a couple of months and then start
printing huge amounts of pages).
Note that the bannerpage printed automatically is also subtracted from
your quota. Suppose you print two two-page documents in two separate
printjobs; this will cost you 6 pages from your quota. If both documents
were to be printed in one printjob it would cost you only 5 pages.
Most secretariat offices also have network printers. These are not
intented to be used as general network printers. Access to them however is
not restricted, allowing them be used as an alternative to faxes.
