Automated Updates

The system installation is done using a locally written program called install_check. This program works for Solaris (both SPARC and x86 flavours) and Linux.

Besides the initial system installation the install_check program is used to periodically update and correct the systems' active configuration.

The install_check program may occasionally reboot a workstation when system updates require this.

Install_check is run according to the following schedule:

• On sundaymornings, install_check performs the updates, and in case a certain software update requires this, reboots the system.
• Updates commence between 04:00 and 05:00 sunday morning.
• Some updates are very timeconsuming, causing a final reboot around 10:00 on sunday morning.
