Bachelor and Master programmes

Researchers and professors of our institute participate in a variety of educational programmes that focus on Computer Science and interdisciplinary applications. We also offer summer courses on specialist topics.

BSc Informatica (Dutch)

De bachelor Informatica is een perfecte mix van praktijkvaardigheden als programmeren en beeldbewerking én theoretische basiskennis als logica en redeneren. De afstand tussen studenten en docenten is klein. Daardoor stap je gemakkelijk even binnen bij een docent met een vraag over de stof.

BSc Informatiekunde (Dutch)

Bij Informatiekunde leer je hoe mensen informatie gebruiken in hun werk en privéleven en hoe je ICT ontwerpt om dit te ondersteunen. De meeste ICT-systemen zijn complex en vragen om enorme investeringen, die alleen bedrijven en de overheid kunnen doen. Het managen van informatie en ICT-systemen en het gebruik ervan in organisaties, vorm dus onderdeel van de studie.

BSc Kunstmatige intelligentie (Dutch)

Kunstmatige intelligentie (ook wel artificiële intelligentie of AI) draait om het analyseren en automatiseren van taken waarvoor intelligentie nodig is. De mens is een belangrijke inspiratiebron voor kunstmatige intelligentie. Je kunt immers geen intelligentie analyseren en automatiseren, zonder een idee te hebben over wat menselijke intelligentie is, hoe mensen leren en redeneren. Bij Kunstmatige intelligentie besteed je daarom aandacht aan cognitieve psychologie, logica, taalkunde en filosofie.

MSc Artificial Intelligence (English)

The Master programme in Artificial Intelligence consists of a broad introductory part of the first semester. After this you will take courses on AI topics with a focus in one or two tracks. You can specialize in one or two of five tracks: Gaming, Intelligent Systems, Learning Systems, Natural Language Processing and Learning, Web Information Processing.

MSc Computer Science (English)

This programme addresses both industrial and society-wide problems related to infrastructures, with an emphasis on concurrency engineering, which is a non-trivial discipline. The focus on concurrency and foundation in extensive research expertise in each of these domains is what makes this research-based programme truly unique.

MSc Computational Science (English)

Computational science is a relatively new discipline that has established itself as the third pillar of modern science (alongside theoretical and experimental science), and involves the modelling, simulation and analysis of world phenomena through computation.

MSc Business Information Systems (English)

Business Information Systems is an interdisciplinary field of study at the cutting edge between Social Sciences, Business Studies and ICT. The main emphasis is on 'Business and Information' rather than on 'Systems'. The programme trains you to translate the needs of organisations and their clients into innovative combinations of information systems and organisational measures. The focus is always on both the potential and the limitations of ICT.

MSc Human Centered Multimedia (English)

The Human Centered Multimedia Master track offers a unique one-year programme during which you will be analysing issues relating to visualisation technology, information retrieval, semantic web technology, mobile systems, privacy, metadata and cognitive tools. During the programme you will analyse systems for the supply, storage and communication of information based around intelligent communication between humans and computers by means of various media: images, video, speech and text.

MSc Logic (English)

This is a strongly interdisciplinary and international two-year Master's programme that focuses on the central role of logic as mediator and tool for both sciences and the humanities. The goal and the underlying spirit of the programme is to connect traditional fundamental research in the formal sciences with a wide variety of applications that range from Information Sciences to Linguistics and Philosophy.

MSc Software Engineering (English)

Over the course of this Master’s degree programme, you will become familiar with every aspect of the broad and dynamic field of software engineering. How does one determine and interpret the needs of a client seeking to purchase or develop a new software system? How can you learn to recognise, resolve and prevent defects in a software system? How can theoretical knowledge and professional literature be applied in practice?

MSc System and Network Engineering (English)

This Master programme gives you the theoretical insight and practical tools you need for understanding, developing and maintaining complex IT systems and networks. How do you apply different software components within a complex architecture, so that you get an efficiently working system? How do you make a system that not only technicians, but everyone can use?

Summer school: 5 talen in 5 dagen

Experts van binnen en buiten de UvA vertellen je alles over hun favoriete taal en proberen je te overtuigen van het nut. We maken daarbij veel ruimte voor discussie. Na deze intensieve week zit je diep in de talen, en weet je alles over de verschillen en overeenkomsten, over de zin van functioneel, over de snelheid van telefooncentrales, over de vrijheid van pure object-oriëntatie, en bijvoorbeeld over het ontwerpen van een nieuwe taal.

Summer school: Technology enhanced learning (Dutch)

In deze summerschool behandelen we het gebruik van technologie in het onderwijs vanuit verschillende perspectieven. Technologie is niet meer weg te denken uit het onderwijs: van simulatieomgevingen naar web-gebaseerde leeromgevingen, tot mobiele applicaties.

Summer school: Getting Moore from multi-cores (English)

This summer school explores the changing face of computer systems and will provide you with new programming skills in getting the most from the current trend to multi-core architecture. Technology constrains mean it is no longer feasible to increase clock rates in newer generations of processors. Instead Moore's law now dictates the doubling of the number of cores in each new generation of processor chip. Multi-core architecture is now common in both standard CPUs (central processing unit) and in GPUs (graphics processing unit).
