THEMES
The focus of HPCN Europe '97 will be on Advanced Solutions for Industry, Research and Education
based on Workstations, Servers, High Performance Systems, and Networks. HPCN Europe aims in
particular to show the importance of HPCN technology for the industrial end-users.
- Classical HPCN
- Structural analysis: Applications in: automotive, aerospace, discrete manufacturing, civil engineering
- Computational fluid dynamics: Applications in: aerospace, automotive, process industry
- Electromagnetic simulation: Applications in: electrical industry, aerospace, medicine, telecommunications
- Electrical design automation: Applications in: electrical en electronical industry
- Chemical/pharmaceutical: Applications in: molecular modeling, quantum chemistry, clinical research
- Environmental simulation: Applications in: meteorology, pollution simulation, climate modeling, traffic simulation
- Emerging HPCN
- Data storage, retrieval and analysis: Applications in: data warehousing, data mining, olap
- User interfaces: Applications in: visualisation, multi media, virtual reality
- Cognitive systems: Applications in: pattern recognition, image processing
- Base HPCN Technologies
- Networking technologies: ATM, FDDI, fibre channel, Hippi, etc., switching and routing
techniques and systems
- Data Management Technologies: Archiving, Data migration, storage components and systems
- system integration
Showing open system solution for combining the possibilities provided by workstations,
workstation clusters, SMP servers MPP and supercomputers to solve the computational requirements set by
applications in engineering, dataprocessing and science. Showing migration possibilities for current batch
oriented dataprocessing providers for integrating the more interactive possibilities provided by
workstation and workstation server based systems.
Showing new possibilities of integrating these open components with new visual interfaces and network
technologies such as provided by WWW for instance by showing the possibilities of multi site work
based on High Performance tools.
Vendors interested in exhibiting System Integration are welcomed to propose sponsorship contributions for
the implementation of the TDD in addition to their participation at the exhibition of HPCN Europe '97.
- high-speed networking
Networking technology will be made highly visable within the Event HPCN Europe through the
Technology Demonstrators Display (TDD). Research centers and Universities will demonstrate real
time and on line State of the Art development of their institutions' expertise.
For these demonstrations High Speed Networking technology will be ideally embedded and shown in
practice to facilitate these real time application demonstrations. High Speed & Broadband
Networking Vendors will have excellent opportunities to display their product range.
Vendors interested in exhibiting Network technology are welcomed to propose sponsorship
contributions for the implementation of the TDD in addition to their participation at the
exhibition of HPCN Europe '97.
- applications and networking
Showing how modern network based computing like WWW allows applications to run in a distributed
environment. Showing the migration from monolithic to more clusterbased computing.
Illustrating the possibilities of meta computer environment for instance based on PVM to be used
for future heterogeneous network computing.
Vendors interested in exhibiting Applications and Networking are welcomed to propose sponsorship
contributions for the implementation of the TDD in addition to their participation at the
exhibition of HPCN Europe '97.
- database management (datamining and datawarehousing)
Showing in depth and with use of Data mining & Data warehousing technology real applications of
Database Management will be used actively by the organisation of HPCN Europe '97.
Vendors interested in exhibiting Database Management technology are welcomed to propose
sponsorship contributions for the implementation of Data mining & Data warehousing technology in
addition to their participation at the exhibition of HPCN Europe '97.
- world wide web applications
The use and the potential of Internet (WWW) and other network standards within Research Institutions
and Universities is a widely spread and succesfully implemented for over many years.
Nowadays, however, Industry is gaining more and more awareness of the economical benefits of the
Web also for research development purposes. Therefore, Web applications and technology is logically made a
theme within the total event HPCN Europe. The importance of communication and the networks thereto
are heavely to be focused upon. Together with the TDD-demonstrations the use of the Web decicated
to research will bring additional opportunities to the participating vendors at the showfloor.
Vendors interested in exhibiting Internet / WWW technology are welcomed to propose sponsorship
contributions for the implementation of Internet/WWW/e-mail facilities in addition to their
participation at the exhibition of HPCN Europe '97
LOCATION AND DATES
Vienna, Austria:
The Austrian Federal capital is a city of many faces and aspects. The former imperial metropolis,
whose art treasures and splendid monumental buildings are a permanent reminder of the imperial era
when Vienna was the capital of the Danube Monarchy; the citadel of culture, in which the greatest
composers in history lived and worked: the modern United Nations headquarters city in the heart of
Europe, with a worldwide reputation as an international meetingplace.
But the Danube metropolis is also famed for its quality of life, the pleasures of experience and a
relaxed atmosphere - that typical Viennese flair which characterises its traditional institutions
like the cafes and Heurigen taverns.
