Abstract

This document describes which user applications have been considered and which one has been selected to assess the performance of bulk transfers of real data.

Executive Summary

This deliverable presents the framework that has been defined by the DataTAG Work Packages WP2 and WP3 for transferring "real data" (i.e., data generated by Physicists to simulate an experiment at CERN, data produced in real time by a live experiment, or archived data produced by a live experiment) with real applications over the DataTAG testbed.

After considering a number of experiment applications, Grid middleware packages, tools for transferring data, and tools instrumenting the latter to enable detailed performance analysis, we selected the following:

• CMS
• GridFTP
• NetLogger

This deliverable also highlights the collaborations of the DataTAG project with the EU-funded DataGrid project, High Energy Physics experiments at CERN, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in the U.S. and the Global Grid Forum (GGF).
