SNE Resource Scheduling and Usage Tracking for 2007
The purpose of this page is to track the scheduling and usage of the resources from the SNE group, notably the Van Gogh and Rembrandt clusters and associated network resources.
Scheduling period
The time period we are covering in this page is from January 1 2007 to the end of the year.
Resources
There are two clusters that can be reserved:
Network equipment
There are two network switches, with the following 10GE ports:
- Force10 E600, with 4 LANPHY and 2 WANPHY interfaces
- Nortel ERS8600R, with 9 LANPHY interfaces and 6 UNIPHY interfaces
To interconnect everything there are also two OXC's:
- Calient, with in total 128 ports
- Glimmerglass, with in total 64 ports
There is however only a limited amount of ports available, apart from contention for fibers connecting our dislocated labs.
<!--
The available ports for host connections are as of Feb.1 2007:

Conditions
Please note that usage of our resources is bound to conditions you must agree with:
- the resources are provided as is. We try best effort to help out with special demands but we can not give any guarantee.
- we set priorities to requests. This means that higher priority requests ultimately can pre-emt a lower priority request when reasonable scheduling fails.
- we require to be recognized in publications and press releases based on work where our resources were used.
- we give no guarantee whatsoever on software, data, installations, user accounts, etc. left on our systems. So please copy results to your own environment when possible. For example it is entirely thinkable that a next user reformats the 20 TeraByte disk array.
Read the above and then if you agree send your request to: jpv<at>science.uva.nl or jblom<at>science.uva.nl
Lightpath requests need to be send to: netmaster-optical<at>surfnet.nl
Priorities
100 = our group
90 = groups we work with toward a publication
80 = groups or organizations we have a funding relation with (SURFnet,
NextGrid)
70 = groups on science park we collaborate with (SARA, NIKHEF)
60 = groups not on science park we collaborate with (
OptIPuter, NORTEL, DAS3, etc.)
50 = organisations we push, work with or develop (GLIF, Gloriad, GN2, etc)
10 = rest.
