Token Based concepts

The pictures show where tokens and associated key material could be used within a switch and user stations X and Y at different OSI model layers.

Generic


In the generic case, ToKens are generated at egress ports and checked for its validity at ingress ports. Both methods uses a TokenKey. A key binds certain attributes, identifying a flow of packets from other packet flows sharing the medium. Above picture assumes the same key for bi-directional flows between User X and User Y. Note that a key may be also be different for both flows.
