IDEAS! is a developer of mechatronic systems. Mechatronics involves the analysis, design, synthesis and selection of systems that combine electronic and mechanical components with modern controls, microprocessors and software. The system is overlaid with sensors to record information, microprocessors for interpreting, processing and analysing the information, and actuators to react upon this information.

IDEAS! uses CAD/CAM design tools and advanced Finite Element Modelling tools to calculate the mechanical and thermal properties of the designed systems. The mechanical technology department designs and manufactures mechanical components of instruments for systems such as thermostat systems, optical measurement systems, laser cooling systems or high-pressure vessels. The electronic department develops software and hardware for control systems, the user interfaces and telemetry systems.
