Research Activities
I’m the research scientist of the group since 1999. The main research in our group is the synthesis of a broad scale of new NHC ligands and their complexes with low-valent palladium, copper and nickel. We will test their activity in catalysis, for example in transfer hydrogenation, cross-couplings and polymerizations. My main task is to participate in this research with my own projects.
Currently, I’m working on the synthesis of alkyl-substituted NHC’s and their corresponding silver(I) and palladium(0) complexes.
Next to my research activities, I have many additional tasks. Some call me “the octopus of the department”. I’m responsible for the management and safety of the laboratories. I give introductory training on the NMR-spectrometers to new employees, students and visiting researchers. I also teach chemistry classes to first year students. As a PR-activity, I provide documentation and information to students and teachers concerning the possibilities for trainees within our group.

I’m a sportive person and like to go horse riding, mountain biking, running, skating and walking. I like to read books (especially SF, fantasy and natural sciences) and to play fantasy games (especially the 5 MYST games and URU). I like photography and I spend all my money on traveling around the world to see, hear and smell new wonderful places.
