WORLDCOMP award for Peter Sloot.

During the 2009 World Congress in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied Computing July 13 - 16 in Las Vegas USA, Prof. Peter Sloot was awarded the WORLDCOMP 2009 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD "In Recognition and Appreciation of His Outstanding Service to The Profession of Computer Science and Applied Computing".

About the event:
WORLDCOMP'09 is the largest annual gathering of researchers in computer science, computer engineering and applied computing. The last Joint Conferences (WORLDCOMP'08) attracted over 2,000 computer science and Engineering researchers from 82 countries. It is anticipated that The WORLDCOMP'09 attracted about 2500 participants.

An international team of researchers lead by Prof. Peter Sloot describes in the June 1 issue of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A how a new computational approach allows them to understand the resistance of the HIV virus. Through a unique combination of detailed multi-scale computer simulations and context sensitive text mining the researchers open new ways to improve the medication for complex viral diseases.
