From Schiphol Airport trains run frequently to Amsterdam. The Railway station is situated adjacent to the terminal building, clearly indicated by yellow signs. Useful arrival information can be found here.
Participants staying in the town center are advised to take the train to Amsterdam Central Station (fl. 6.25), and take a tram or taxi from there.
Guests of the Casa 400 hotel are advised to take the train to Amsterdam R.A.I.-station, there change to the (overground running) metro, nr. 51 (direction Central Station), get off at Amstel Station.

Strippencards must be purchased before getting on tram/metro but can sometimes be bought on the tram, which is a lot more expensive and not always possible. Taxis from Schiphol to Amsterdam Town Centre will charge approximately fl. 65,-.
The Strings 97 meeting will take place at the campus of the University of Amsterdam on the Roeterseiland. The lectures will be given in Building A, Roetersstraat 15. It can be reached by public transportation via various trams (9,14,7) and via subway stop Weesperplein or Waterlooplein. It is a 10 minutes subway ride to the Central Station. Amsterdam is a relatively small city, most of the town center can be reached on foot or by tram/metro. Also due to strict parking regulations and traffic control, it is hard to get around town by car. However, if you do want to rent a car, you can find many addresses and telephone numbers in the arrival lounge at Schiphol, or at your hotel.
Local currency is the Dutch guilder, 1 US $ = fl. 1.93. Exchange Offices at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam Central Station and Amsterdam Amstel station, and at various places in town. Credit cards (Visa, Eurocard/Mastercard, American Express, etc) widely accepted, can also be used in most of the cash-point machines (with the credit card-logos).
Please make sure that you have all necessary documents to enter the Netherlands. From western countries no visa are required. Please let us know a.s.a.p. if you need an official letter of invitation to obtain a visa.

In the beginning of the week Amsterdam will be under the spell of the Eurotop, the major European political event this year.
