Transparency of opaque systems

Diffusion of waves gives rise to "Ohmic" transport, both in
semiconductor nanowires and in turbid optical media. However, the phase
information in the incoming field persists through the sample and can
give rise to constructive or destructive interference after many
scattering events. If all conducting channels can be made to interfere
constructively waves will be transported very efficiently, a situation
comparable to superfluid transport. We are setting up an experiment to
increase the transmission of light through a turbid sample by shaping
