Measurement of the thermal spectrum of Hawking radiation in an analog system

This talk will discuss the problems with the derivation of Hawking radiation from black holes, the discovery that the same process predicts thermal radiation from horizons in other systems, and the measurement of the spectrum of the radiation from one such analog system ( that of surface waves in water in a flume).
