Course; Zooming in on plasmamembrane dynamics with advanced light microscopy
Recent technical developments have sparked a new wave of interest in the field of membrane research. Microscopic techniques can be used to elucidate membrane composition, organization and dynamics, as this reflects the functions of cells and their organelles, transport of membranes, transport across membranes and signaling. Because of the recent technological revolution in advanced light microscopy (super-resolution imaging, functional imaging of molecules) it is now possible to directly monitor the dynamics of (single) molecules in biomembranes in living cells. This practical advanced course will provide students the theoretical background and give hands-on experience of state-of-the-art (membrane) microscopy techniques.

Salt & Water Stress in Plants
Drought and salinity cause serious global crop losses. Dramatic progress has been made over recent years at identifying individual biological mechanisms, genes and networks that are required for plant survival under abiotic stress. The emerging main challenges are to obtain an understanding of how these processes are coordinated within the plant, identification of many still unknown key players and genes and how different environmental stresses and their signaling pathways are integrated into an overall response. In addition to invited speakers, the organizers have left many open slots for talks to be selected from submitted abstracts and applications, further ensuring that late breaking developments and important fields will be widely represented.
