UvA Biologist receives Finnish honorary doctorate

The Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) will award an honorary doctorate to Professor Fernando H. Lopes da Silva on 2 April 2008. The University announced this at the Opening of the Academic Year on 6 September. Lopes da Silva is Professor Emeritus in General and Comparative Animal Physiology in the Faculty of Science at the University of Amsterdam.

The Finnish university is awarding Lopes da Silva the honorary doctorate because he is an internationally celebrated scholar in the area of biophysics and neuroscience. ‘He has made an important contribution to the orientation and advancement of research at the TKK. His neurophysical research has been extremely important for brain research at the TKK. He is a renowned teacher and speaker at international symposia and conferences.'
