Welcome to my Amsterdam webspace! You'll find here information about my research and teaching, and also a link to the
design website of my sister Ada - go see some of her great work.
If you're into Jazz/Rock music, check out my kid brother Ami, who's drumming all over Europe.
I head the heterogeneous catalysis and sustainable chemistry group in the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) at the University of Amsterdam.
We focus on three areas: catalyst discovery, new materials for sustainable energy applications, and predictive modelling in catalysis.
I also have two companies: Sorbisense A/S in Denmark, that manufactures and markets a new groundwater sampling technology, and Yellow Diesel B.V.
in the Netherlands, that designs new solid catalysts and processes for biodiesel manufacturing and biomass conversion.

01/2010: PhD vacancy - I am looking for a PhD student for a catalyst synthesis and testing project. Experience in heterogeneous catalysis is a plus. Excellent command of English and a master's degree in either Chemistry or Chemical engineering is a must.
12/2009: Check out my paper in Nature Chemistry on the implications of Gabor Somorjai's new catalysts.
11/2009: Dr. Santiago Gómez-Quero has joined our group to work on our ACTS/ASPECT project. Welcome Santi!
10/2009: Dr. Stefania Grecea has joined our group to work on the CatchBio lignin project, together with a new PhD student, Zea Strassberger. Good luck Stefania and Zea!
