SUKIYAKI-1 - An oriental-style cook-at-the-table dinner
50 ml oil
1 kg celery or water chestnuts sliced thin
2 mild onions, sliced thin
200 g mushrooms, sliced thin
200 g bamboo shoots, diced
2 tomatoes, peeled, sliced thin
250 ml beef broth
100 ml soy sauce
300 g whole fresh spinach leaves
500 g sirloin steak, sliced very thin
(1) Heat oil in skillet. Add all vegetables except
spinach. Cook a few minutes, stirring occasion-
ally.
(2) Pour broth and soy over vegetables. Stir. Add spi-
nach and beef.
(3) Simmer 5 minutes. Serve hot over rice.
Difficulty: easy, but preparation tedious. Time: 45 minutes
preparation, 10 minutes cooking. Precision: no need to
measure.
