Notes to Collingwood's Aesthetics

1. Davidson (2001 p. 219), in one of his famous discussions of ‘triangulation’, credits Collingwood with the idea that consciousness of self necessarily involves that of others. Obviously there also are hints here of Wittgenstein's discussion of ‘private language’ (1953, §201, §243, and passim). But there are limits; see Wollheim (1980 §§21-5, §§45-50), and Kemp (2003).
